Russia's foreign ministry calls for restraint in military activity

러시아 외교부, 군사행동 자제요청

Russia has been pressuring North Korea to refrain military activity, and has called on South Korea and the U.S. to do the same, as it is holds up adoption of a UN Security Council press statement condemning North Korea's launch of mid-range ballistic missiles last month.

러시아는 그동안 북한의 군사행동에 대해 압력을 행사해 왔으며, 미국과 한국 역시 군사행동을 자제할 것을 요청했다. 또한 유엔안전보장이사회의 북한중거리탄도미사일을 규탄하는 성명을 채택한 데 대해 지지를 표명했다.

The statement has been delayed for more than two weeks.

이와 같은 러시아의 성명은 2주가 지나도록 지연되었다.

Speaking at a regular briefing on Thursday, Russia's foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow supports the current UN sanctions against North Korea for its nuclear and missile launches.

목요일 정기브리핑에서 러시아 외무부 대변인은 북한의 핵과 미사일 발사 관련 제재를 지지한다고 밝혔다.

She added all related nations should avoid aggravating tensions on the Korean peninsula and instead follow a path to a political and diplomatic resolution.
또한 많은 국가들과 관련된 한반도 긴장을 악화시키는 행위를 피해야 하며, 문제를 풀기위해 정치외교적 노력을 해야 한다고 밝혔다.

Her comments add weight to the growing speculation that Russia wants to add content to the UN statement that specifically calls for Seoul and Washington to refrain from military action, namely its annual joint military drills.

러시아는 또한 정례합동군사훈련과 같은 군사적 행동을 자제할 것을 한국과 미국에게 요구하는 유엔결의문을 추가하도록 하는 것이 필요하다는 입장이다.

Russia's ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, had previously said Moscow proposed the same, leading to assumptions that Moscow is trying to link North Korea's provocations to the military exercises between South Korea and the U.S.

주 유엔 러시아 대사는 이전에도 한미합동군사훈련과 북한의 도발이 연관이 있음을 시사한 바 있다.

Seoul, however, dismissed the speculation on Thursday, saying the delay with the UN statement has nothing to with the drills.

하지만 한국은 이러한 입장에 대해 유엔결의의 지연과 한미훈련은 연관되어 있지 않았음을 밝혔습니다.
